Location method of an active distribution network fault section based on multi-target weighted grey target decision

Abstract:
When distributed generators are connected to a distribution network, the existing centralized fault location method based on single-fault-characteristic finds it difficult to locate the fault segment reliably. Thus a distributed fault section location method based on multi-objective weighted grey target decision is proposed to help solve this problem. By analyzing the influence of distributed generation on the single-phase ground fault current, the normalized equivalent resistance and the fluctuation quantities of the transient zero-mode current in the section, the attenuation speed and the difference of zero-sequence current are selected as the evaluation indices of the section state. The target distance of the sampling data of each section under the three decision results of the healthy section, the upstream section of the fault point and the fault section are calculated respectively to determine whether the section is a fault section. PSCAD/EMTDC simulation results show that the proposed method can integrate diverse fault characteristics, and that it is suitable for locating the fault section of a radial distribution network with IIDG under different fault conditions.
